Los Angeles, CA, July 2006- Tilford Art Group is proud to announce its new exhibit, Urban Impressionism, new works by Olivier Van Zeveren and introducing Karen Powell in the galleryannex. This is the fourth show of the year curated by Terrell Tilford, presented in the Tilford Art Group studiogallery, 5449 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90019, located one 1/2 block west of Hauser Blvd., between La Brea and Fairfax.

Like snapshots on canvas, the images in Urban Impressionism capture the essence of everyday life and offer a fresh and modern variation of the style created by French Impressionists of the 19th century. The work of Belgium born artist, Olivier Van Zeveren, is simply breathtaking. His paintings of urban landscapes challenge the aesthetics of light itself. As Van Zeveren explains, "These elements are not subjects so much as they are relief from the play of light in and on the environment." Van Zeveren's work in the computer industry afforded him the opportunity to travel to places such as Paris, Spain, Amsterdam, South Africa, and the Middle East. This multi-talented artist and filmmaker has developed a knack for capturing light-driven images on film, which he then reinterprets on canvas. Throughout his career, Van Zeveren has received many honors and his paintings are part of the private collections of celebrities such as actor Keith Hamilton Cobb and animator Virginie Michel D'Annoville. His recent commissions include work for the Tony Award nominee Courtney B. Vance and his wife, Oscar nominee Angela Bassett.

Karen Powell, a recent Atlanta transplant, is best known for her work as a graphic artist, with over 33 years of experience in Boston's corporate business world. Her current work as a fine artist has allowed Powell to venture into an arena that she loves and has been passionate about all of her life. Working in mixed media, Powell uses vintage photographs and juxtaposes them with backgrounds of abstract brushwork. Her paintings have been included in gallery exhibitions in New York, Boston, and Memphis.
